Port Perry Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge Model

The goal of this project was to create a scale model of a real truss bridge out of limited materials. The main challenge was maintaining accuracy while working with such precise geometry. The emphasis was on structural fidelity, precise joinery, and attention to detail to create a work I am very proud of.

Michigan Soccer Jersey Concepts

The goal of this project was to translate research on a chosen topic into a final work. The main challenge was trying to maintain the University of Michigan brand language while also creating a new, interesting design. This project allowed me to hone my Photoshop skills and experiment with designing apparel.

Omega Watch Concept Design

The goal of this project was to create a watch that aligns with a chosen brand language and a specific user persona. This project is a digital Omega watch tailored to surfers that looks like an analog watch. The face has a classic Seamaster bezel with tide, wind, and water temperature dials. The main challenge was staying loyal to Omega’s brand identity while trying to create a new concept for a watch. I began with ideation sketches and creating a storyboard for how the watch works. I took the ideation sketches and turned them into 5 directions. After a critique, I decided on this final direction.

Skeleton Drawing

I prioritized proportional accuracy and charcoal shading techniques for this project. I carefully measured the features of the skull using sighting and built up layers of charcoal gradually to achieve the desired values. I chose the skull as a subject because I found it very challenging to draw, and I wanted to hone my traditional drawing skills.

Bowl Stabilizer

The goal of this project was to create a product that would benefit someone with only one hand. I 3D modelled and printed a pliable ring that holds a bowl stable when mixing. Challenges for this project included building design empathy and working with a new medium, TPU filament. TPU is a bendable filament that has different properties from standard PLA filament, and this project quickly became a material exploration. The final product has to be pliable enough to fit multiple-sized bowls, but not too flimsy, or it would break.

Crawllr Wireframe and Logo

I was approached by a student at the College of William & Mary to help his team in creating a logo and initial wireframe for his new mobile app. I began with pencil sketches before receiving feedback from the Crawllr team about what design they liked. I then refined and created a digital version of the app icon in Illustrator, which is the current icon. Then, the Crawllr team asked me to mock up a wireframe for their app in Figma, which I first used for this project. The main challenge was keeping simplicity and clarity at the forefront of the decisions I made. Here is a link for more details.

In Progress: Surfboard

This is a personal project I have wanted to work on since I began surfing in middle school. I started working on the board in my Grandfather’s shop last summer. So far, I have independently designed, shaped, and begun the glassing process. The main emphasis was on the shaping process, where symmetry and precision were paramount. This project shows an understanding of form and material properties.

Learning Experience: Wood Frame

The aim of this project was to create an 18in by 18in wooden frame out of one 2”x 4” using only hand tools. The main emphasis here was on precision and accuracy. Each corner is a different joinery method. The main failure in this project was spending too much time hand-planing the wood to get it down to the proper dimension. The hyperfixation on planing left me with less time to work on the joints, which also required attention to detail. I now know not to get too hung up on one specific detail for a project with a hard deadline, because sacrifices in overall quality happened.
