Port Perry Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge Model

The goal of this project was to create a scale model of a real truss bridge out of limited materials. The main challenge was maintaining accuracy while working with such precise geometry. The emphasis was on structural fidelity, precise joinery, and attention to detail to create a work I am very proud of.

Process

Medium
Basswood sticks, superglue, and steel rod

Size
36n x 8in x 3.5in

The first step was selecting a bridge then drawing a plan of the side elevation in a 1:1 scale.

Next, I constructed the two identical sides of the bridge with basswood and super glue.

Finally, I created the central supports and the deck. I then fabricated the steel train tracks for the model of this railroad bridge.
